Beat Battles

So I finally got a chance to sit down & really put together a beat this weekend... for the past month, all I really have been doing is competing in beat battles with my Friends... and its been so much fun.

Late Night Drive, Live Sounds & Ghetto Birds...
are all perfect examples of how a 15 minute beat battle can inspire some dope shit... and how the pressure of the time limit usually brings out the BEST work.
'ghetto birds' the first 4 bars was from a battle two nights ago w/ ta'raach... this was on saturday night... Slum Village had a show in Costa Mesa, CA so I was thinking about going to that & at the last minute decided to stay at the crib & build that 15 minute beat up... I started with adding extra drums over top of the existing ones in the sample, then I went & chopped the samples further to make the overall sound more dynamic. After all that was done, I went & played the bassline on the motif keyboard & sampled my licks into the MPC & replayed them in the sequences. The beat really reminded me of when I first moved to L.A. & lived in the hood... the police helicopter aka the ghetto bird usually came to my neighborhood atleast 3 times a night & I used to just sit on my porch & watch the fucker circle while I had records playing in the background... hopefully you get some of that feeling out of the beat
'late night drive' was done in a 15 minute battle with Ta'Raach & Diabolic aka Mr. Dibiase $$$$$ last night.
'Live Sounds' was from the last rounds of battles last night... and we moved the time limit down from 15 minutes to 10 minutes... this was by FAR my best 10 minute effort to this day.

'Headhunter' is my latest effort on the MPC... just trying to deviate from my influences a bit & shape my OWN sound. Some call it 'space funk' others just call it 'raw'... Im just tryin to smash yalls head & break yalls neck with this one!!
'Your Love' was my first attempt at sampling the Yamaha Motif 6 for my bass sounds & then I chopped them up in the MPC & played the notes myself. The version I have posted up here is the final version as opposed to the unfinished version that was played last week on 'Deviation'. Regardless, I hope yall enjoy everything up there!!!!
